The Taste of Sabbath (How to Delight in God's Rest)

Tony & I recently finished reading this short little book by Stuart Bryan and we have been thoroughly convinced that each Sabbath Day is to be a purposeful day of delight and celebration. It is a day to gather corporately to worship our Creator through the preaching of His Word and song; a day to fellowship, rest, and feast; a day to extend mercy, grace, and hospitality. "The things done on the Sabbath should be things that promote life, promote well being, and advance the joy and happiness of men while upholding the honor and worship of God."

From CanonPress: "Sundays are feast days. But sometimes, that's awfully hard to remember. We often get too busy trying to keep track of all the things we're "not supposed to" do. Yet, as Stuart Bryan explains, this is not the emphasis of Scripture. The Lord's Day is a day of freedom, a day defined by thanksgiving—for God's grace, for the opportunities to share that grace with others, and for the hope we have in the glorious rest to come."

So what did this past Sunday look like for us? We gathered with some dear people in the morning - heard a great sermon and sang gospel enriched songs. We enjoyed a yummy lunch and fun fellowship with friends. We took a nice little nap in our comfy bed. We had a nice feast at my parents house ~ they made homemade tamales!! I helped with some of the sides and Chrissie made the dessert. :) There were 11 people gathered around the table and later scattered in the living rooms. Lots of fun it was! After a quick trip to the grocery store (we actually finished reading the book along the way), the evening was closed at our home sweet home, where we snuggled into our high thread count sheets. :)

We love Sundays too! I try to keep meals as simple as possible and lately, we've been banning the internet on those days. It's a wonderful day to rest and rejoice.
